SPACESONGS: Notes

2000 upd8 - October 11, 2008

So, things have been going well this year, and there have been lots of great gigs....it is the updating that has fallen by the wayside. I attribute this to user error...:-) The news editor will try to be more on top of things in the coming months.

Diane Timmons and Claire Rose have been in full swing with choir this year. Claire is singing at Christ Church with the girl's choir, and Diane has been singing in the Bach Choir and also at First Presbyterian Church on Sundays. This has kept us both cheerful.
Claire continues with her ballet, and will be performing 3 different roles in the Nutcracker this year, one of them on pointe. Dylan F-T is still playing sousaphone in the marching band: this year at Lafayette. He is currently marching in a competition in Grant County.
John Rose played last night with Rakadu at Natasha's...it was a very black-and-sepia toned, old-timey looking, gothic and halloween-looking show. The music was fantastic...especially John's haunting harmonica playing.

Here in a few weeks we will all be enjoying participation in Mecca's annual Thriller parade...this year on Halloween itself, October 31. Time to get yer rotten undead groove on!

OK, that's all for now...hopefully there will be another update really soon!

Kerrville!!! - June 3, 2007

I had a great time at the Kerrville Folk Festival singing with Carla Gover, who is now a New Folk winner!!! What an inspirational time...I highly recommend this festival to anyone serious about songwriting or songwriters.

Thanks everybody! - April 12, 2007

The Yuri's Night concert on Second Life was a blast, and I appreciate all the folks who came out and shared their beautiful creative avatars with us tonight. I'm sure we will be playing many more live shows in SL and other cool places. It's so great to still be together as SPACECRAFT on our 10th anniversary as a band!

A great show, a great feeling - February 10, 2007

We got through the Girls Just Wanna Have Fun show at Mecca, and we did have lots of fun, even though it was really cold in there and the show almost didn't happen! Everything worked out and now I have a good, satisfied feeling in my heart about the whole thing. There was lots of anxiety leading up to the show...I guess I was worried if there would be enough ticket sales to pay for the investment in the space, sound system, and printing of posters and tickets. However, it all worked out and I think people really enjoyed it despite the need for coats. The highlight was the very end, when I drummed and the cloggers squared off with Rakadu and traded their fancy stuff back and forth, finally dancing together. It was very cool, and may never have been done before.

Many thanks to all the fans who showed up and supported us. It was so nice to see everybody...including Liam, who was unexpectedly home from Italy and showed up in the first half. Actually there were so many old friends in the audience that I would be hard pressed to mention even a decent fraction of them. Thanks everybody.
Tonight, we are playing at Natasha's with Rakadu...I think it will be fun and relaxing. Looking forward to a glass of Goats do Roam and some jamming.

Girls Having Fun... - January 10, 2007

I am getting ready for some shows with Carla Gover and Jeri Catherine Howell called Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, and it is. There are lots of sweet girl harmonies, we are doing some 80's covers in our own unique way, and I am playing an original song for the first time. The first show is near Cleveland this Saturday, in Massillon...I'll be mailing everybody...
In other news, I just made another hat...this one is really grape. John is editing Richard Rose lectures to CD, and it is actually cold out for the first time this January. Lots of good stuff in the works for us and we will share the joy...

Second Life is fun... - December 13, 2006

...almost as fun as real life!
So John's first concert in SL, the virtual world, was really interesting and unusual tonight...I think it went well also. Any comments would be appreciated, as I was not able to tune in due to a technical need for my computer in the broadcast process. It sounded nice here at the house, anyway.
We are in a happy, Christmasy mood and just got the tree today from old friend Bob who grows them and raises all kinds of different birds. Today he had small turkeys and really big geese with wacky feathers and peacocks (and hens) and mandarin ducks and chickens with feathery feet like bell bottoms. Also present and very entertaining was Maude the dog. It is so cool in Bob's yard that we get our tree there every year.
I will keep everybody posted about other SL concerts and Nema's shows with Rakadu and other stuff. I will try to get them on the calendar better....
I hope everybody is cozy and warm and feeling happy...

Giving thanks! - November 27, 2006

Hey all,

It was the best Thanksgiving ever...I hope everyone's was as relaxing as ours was. We had so much fun playing music with the family in the country.
The Sudekum show in Nashville was great, too, and John has been editing the recording to make it available to those who are interested in a copy.
The ballet girls are working on a small version of the Nutcracker for a private party coming up in a few weeks. Dancing snowflakes are in the air! I have been listening to Tomita doing Debussy...
Carla and Diane have been working with 13-yr-old Jeri Catherine on some great songs for upcoming shows...more on that soon...
Diane has some songs in the works with electronica great Jan Pulsford....
Spacecraft is working on some music for an upcoming compilation CD dedicated to peace, put together by Thurston Moore...
A happy and exciting holiday season is upon us all, full of fun and creativity! I am grateful.

Spacy at the Sudekum! - November 15, 2006

I am so excited about our upcoming show at the Sudekum Planetarium in Nashville, as it has been a long time since we played in a planetarium setting, and it is always so cool and conducive to the kind of music we are trying to create with Spacecraft.
John is resurrecting some old great sequences, like Hummel, so we will play some "greatest hits" if we have such a thing. It will be really nice to connect with Tony and Heather too, and see their little sweetie. All and all I think it is going to be a wonderful weekend! Now if I can just remember every little thing I am supposed to pack....

Dia de los Muertos: gettin serious - October 28, 2006

I hope lots of people get over their hibernatory mood and come out to see this incredible ballet we are part of! It is so Amazing! Spooky! Sad! Happy! Funny! Beautiful! Mysterious! and Informative!

Rehearsals at the studio today with the full cast were above and beyond the usual chaos and mayhem. This time we had live musicians and dancing parents to contend with, as well as big props and skeleton puppets, causing me to say, "this studio ain't big enough for the 150 of us!"
Death, graceful and stylish yet skeletal, wandered forebodingly through the entire production, while the angelic souls of departed innocent children created a mysteriously uplifting scene. Traditional Hispanic families decorated the graves of loved ones with marigolds, turning their faces away when the dark souls of the unloved emerged briefly from their graves like zombies. At the market, pan de muertos and marigolds were peddled. A pre-hispanic dance hinted that this has all been going on for a very long time.

4th Friday tomorrow!!! - October 26, 2006

So tomorrow is the 4th Friday artists' blowout at the Loudon House. Rakadu is scheduled to provide some belly action, accompanied musically by John, Diane and Jeff. This is sure to be a spooky show, so close to Halloween. There may even be VAMPIRES there! I am bringing my sterling silver crucifix dagger and garlic necklace with me...

Zombies; Dia de los Muertos - October 17, 2006

Wow...lots of crafting and rehearsing is going on to get ready for all this death and mayhem! A great buzz is astir for the 5th annual Thriller parade, this year on the 22nd. A city-wide artistic effort is underway for the beautiful new Dia de los Muertos exhibits, culminating in the Bluegrass Youth Ballet performances on November 3 and 4. Diane will be singing in this performance with Adalhi and Carla, and Duane Corn will be playing with other guitar trio members. For Thriller, John and Diane will be decked out in Zombie finery and adding their talents to the parade.
